In attendance:
King Fudge, Face (Black Scorpio) ,Evan ,Two Spliff ,Empress,Faya Ras ,Shaunice
Ok, so the trip was nice, fun, exciting . . .but, not without some sort of off the wall experience. The plan was to leave Friday morning, anytime between 7 and 8, but you know how things go; we were on the road by about 10. That was alright though, because we made it to Connecticut for our desired time which was about-6pm. So when we got to Connecticut we meet a Rasta named Dubee at a Super Motel 8. Yes, a motel 8. The motel was located by a river bank in the woods. Daunting, Scary, Terrifying!! (All of that plus some.--Well for me at least) At first we were hesitant about the motel, but after seeing that our rooms were decent, some of those feelings resided.
After we checked in, we went to a Jamaican restaurant. The food taste good!! Stew Fish, rice and peas and sautéed cabbage and carrots on the side. Delicious! Of course we were tired after such a long drive so we ate and took a little nap. We were up by ten and at the club by at least 10:30.
The Club has a great deal of Potential.....
Now, let me preface the rest of this entry by stating that the club has a great deal of potential. It has a lot of dancing space and it's an attractive venue. When we got to the club, we were shocked that this attractive venue had absolutely no one was there, and as the night progressed, no one showed up. Ok, ok maybe I am stretching it; the actual people in attendance were the Vybz family (5 off us), 8 women, the Upsetta Sound System and the people who worked at the club. And that's it.
The tunes that started the dance were oldies, foundation tunes and some up to the times conscious reggae music. Upsetta was playing first then Vybz. When we played our segment, I tell no lies, the energy shifted dramatically. Some dubs-some conscious and some dancing music, which by the way got the crowd hype. Shaunice and Empress danced the new dances and showed the ladies in the club how to buss some of them. It Sell off!!!! Faya Ras lively up the place on the mic. I mean he had the crowd enjoying themselves-as usual. King Fudge played all the right tunes to get the Vybz flowing in the place. Evan dance de whole night. The dance was fun and it ended at about 2 in the morning. We were so tired that as soon as we got back to the hotel, a mean motel, we fell right asleep.
NYC and Ct had 20 plus inches of snow..
The next morning, all of us but Fudge went into New York City. While in New York we picked up Black Scorpio's Face. We got back to the motel and Two Spliff was there to add to the Vybz. We decided from Friday that we would not be getting to the dance as early. So we got there at about 1:15 and again, no one was there (due to stormy conditions NYC and Ct had 20 plus inches of snow). Ok, so I am exaggerating just a bit again about the turn out. The actual people there this time was, the Vybz family (7 deep including Two Spliff and Face), Upsetta sound system, lover's Choice and about five people. We only got to play 1 10-15 minute segment. After our segment, we went straight back to the motel and limed, chilled, till like 7 am talking about music and tings. Then we got on the road at about 12:30 or 1:30 pm. We reached Pittsburgh at about 1 AM roughly.
That was our experience for the most part, give or take a couple of details. But one thing that I must say, no matter where Vybz Machine goes, we always bring the Vybz. . . .
Till next journey.....
